Later, both Eren and Mikasa watch the return of the Scout Regiment forces, witnessing yet another failure of their expedition. Mikasa watches as Eren complains about the soldiers slacking off while on duty. She is surprised to see tears in his eyes and asks why he was crying. She is seen waking Eren up, telling him that they need to return to home. Mikasa appears for the first time in year 845 somewhere inside Wall Maria. She later joined the Scout Regiment to continue protecting Eren. Though she desires only to live a peaceful life with Eren, Mikasa chose to follow him into the military-where she is considered the best soldier among the 104th Cadet Corps. Mikasa Ackermann ( ミカサ・アッカーマン Mikasa Akkāman ?) is the last descendant of the Shogun clan that stayed on Paradis Island, thereby related to the Azumabito family, and holds significant political power in Hizuru. Eren Jaeger, a boy whose mother was eaten during the invasion, vowed to wipe every last Titan off the face of the Earth, and joined the military determined to exact his revenge.
However, one day a Colossal Titan far larger than any other seen before breached the outer wall, allowing the smaller Titans to invade the human territory and forcing the survivors to retreat to the inner walls. The survivors responded by constructing three concentric walls: Wall Maria, Wall Rose and Wall Sina, which graced them with a century of peace. There was an insurmountable gap in power between them and mankind, and as a result, humanity was rapidly exterminated to the brink of extinction.
